The College of Direct Support
Your D-WCCMHA Virtual Center of Excellence has received a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide technology-based learning opportunities to the Direct Care workforce. The College of Direct Support (CDS) is a national continuing education program providing web-based learning opportunities for Direct Support Professionals. During the 2010 calendar year, VCE will be able to provide access to the CDS online courses for 300 families and the Direct Support Professionals providing them with support. These courses are approved by the National Alliance of Direct Support Professionals at the University of Minnesota. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)
This training is designed to meet the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) annual certification requirement. The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 2.5 CEC hours.
This HIPAA-compliance training was developed for Wayne County employees who work in the Department of Health and Human Services. As such, it may reference policies and procedures that are unique to Wayne County employees. Your employer can and should have its own policies and procedures that are tailored to its particular functions. You should familiarize yourself with those mandates that are exclusive to your institution. However, the vast majority of this training is applicable to anyone subject to HIPAA compliance.

This two-hour course provides an introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Children and Adolescents. Viewers will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of this evidence-based practice. The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 2.0 CEC hours. This training also counts for 2.0 hours of the 24 hours of annual training required by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) for Children's Mental Health Professionals (CMHP).
Cultural Competency: Working with LGBTQ Youth (If you are a physician or registered nurse, please click here for more info)
This 90-minute cultural competency course provides an introduction to working with lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgendered and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Emphasis is placed on challenges faced by LGBTQ youth at home and school. The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 1.5 CEC hours. This training also counts for 1.5 hours of the 24 hours of annual training required by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) for Children's Mental Health Professionals (CMHP).
Traumatic Brain Injury & Public Services
This is a free training course intended for service providers in Michigan's public service agencies, including: Community Mental Health Services Providers, Department of Human Services, MI Choice Waiver Agents, Area Agencies on Aging, Special Education professionals, and anyone who serves people with brain injury.
The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for up to 3.0 CE credit hours required during the licensure cycle.
This course is presented in four modules. Each module requires approximately 45 minutes to complete. You may stop this training at any point and resume where you left off.
You must successfully complete all four modules in order to receive your certificate. Person Centered Planning with Children, Adults & Families This course provides instruction on the core principles of person centered planning, and facilitating pre-planning and person centered planning meetings. Review points include: (1) person centered planning is defined as a right by the MI Mental Health Code and focuses on the abilities, choices, and preferences of the person supported; (2) engagement in community life is a core value of person centered planning; (3) family, friends, and support people can help to actualize personal visions, dreams, and aspirations; (4) health and safety issues must be factored into the person centered planning process; (5) the pre-planning meeting is conducted prior to the person centered planning meeting to effectively plan for the meeting.; (6) the facilitator leads a discussion to identify the person's hopes and dreams, goals, strategies, and potential barriers; and (7) it is important to evaluate the meeting with the participants.
The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 1.0 hour of CE credit. This training also satisfies the annual MDCH requirement for one hour of training on Person Centered Planning with Children, Adults & Families. ACT - Basic Elements of Assertive Community Treatment
This is an introductory course for Assertive Community Treatment practitioners. Topics covered include: history, practice principles, philosophy of recovery and benefits of ACT.

This is an advanced course for Assertive Community Treatment practitioners. The "ACT - Advanced Elements I" course will provide information about Recovery and the Stress-Vulnerability model.
The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 1.0 hour of CE credit. Learners must complete "ACT - Basic Elements of Assertive Community Treatment" before taking ACT - Advanced Elements I. Gender Development in Children The Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative has approved this training for 2.0 CE credit hours.
