Children's Mental Health Grand Rounds (CMHGR): The Impact of Child Trauma on Sensory Processing: Creating A Supportive Response for Children With Sensory Modulation Disorders: Concepts and Tools with Ben Atchison, PhD, OTR, FAOTA
Children's Mental Health Grand Rounds will be available at FIVE (5) locations via video-conference! Attendees will be able to participate, save time and gas money and still receive continuing education credits. See details and registration instructions below; please read carefully. DATE: Thursday, March 18, 2010 TIME: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, to ensure parking arrive by 8:00 AM LOCATION: This training will be available through video-conference at five (5) locations. To attend at Northeast Guidance Center's Wellness Academy, 2900 Conner Ave., Bldg. A, Detroit, MI 48215, click on the register button at the bottom of this page. The other four (4) sites are: The Dearborn Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, The Children's Center; Lincoln Behavioral Services; The Guidance Center, Center For Excellence. SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS: Professionals who work in Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse systems with children, adolescents and their families in Wayne County, including advocates, case managers, child mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and supports coordinators), direct care workers, family advocates, family members, licensed professional counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, parents and peer support specialists. Professional staff within our Community Partners who interact with children, adolescents and their families, who are part of the Community Mental Health System, including Department of Human Services; Hospitals; Law Enforcement; School Personnel, including Detroit Public Schools; and other Social Service Organizations. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to: 1. List three examples of beaviors observed in traumatized children within each of the three typologies of Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD). 2. Use two observation formats to identify the different types of sensory processing disorders. 3. Develop a "tool box" of activities to use, in collaboration with trained practitioners using a Sensory Integration
Approach, to facilitate necessary and appropriate sensory supports for those who have SPD.
