TIME: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

LOCATION:  This training will be available through video-conference at four locations.  The speaker will be at the LIVE site: The Guidance Center's Center for Excellence, Southgate.  The broadcast sites are: The Children's Center, Detroit; Community Living Services, Wayne; and Lincoln Behavioral Services, Redford.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  This session will increase the knowledge of attendees to successfully facilitate activities for people with Dementia.
- Understand basic methods for functional and leisure assessment of people with Dementia
- Conduct a task analysis of an activity within the following domains: social, physical, emotional and mental
- Develop adaptive strategies to be able to engage each person with Dementia within an activity setting
- Consider formative and summative evaluation methods to measure quality in facilitation of activities
- Understand person directed care

SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS:  Professionals who work in Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse systems with adults, older adults and their families in Wayne County, including advocates, case managers, adult mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and supports coordinators), direct care workers, family advocates, family members, licensed professional counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, parents and peer support specialists.

Professional staff within our Community Partners who interact with adults, older adults and their families, who are part of the Community Mental Health System, including Department of Human Services; Hospitals; and other Social Service Organizations.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:  Continuing education credits are approved for this training.  Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety including the question and answer portion.  Late arrivals and early departures will result in the deduction of awarded credits.  All participants MUST return to the check-in desk to sign-out and pick-up your certificate of attendance or else you will forfeit your proof of attendance and training hours/credits!

-SOCIAL WORKERS: 6.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training

-LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: 6.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training

-NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATORS: 6.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training

NEW LEARNING SERIES BENEFITS: 
This is a new learning series in partnership with Eastern Michigan University.  This session is the third of three (3) six-hour sessions that will lead to a "Specialty Certificate" from Eastern Michigan University (EMU).  EMU's specialty certificate is a great way to show that you have gained a significant level of education in the area of Dementia from an accredited university.  Individual outcomes vary, previous student motivation for obtaining a specialty certificate has ranged from opportunities for career advancement to individual self improvement.  In addition to the specialty certificate, participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each individual session. 
*If you were unable to attend Part I and II; the series will be repeated in its entirety, starting with Part I in April 2012
*The sessions do not have to be completed consecutively to attain the specialty certificate

REGISTRATION:  Pre-registration is required by Friday, February 10, 2012.  To register, please click on the site below that you wish to attend.  Walk-ins (those that are not pre-registered) will be accepted.  Walk-ins are NOT guaranteed seats and will have to wait until the training begins to receive training materials and in some instances a seat.
